A FARMHOUSE
AND
A FAMOUS KANGAROO
Hey there, I'm Danni!
I'm an Aussie girl living on The Northern Beaches of Sydney.
I live in a Farmhouse within a suburb that was once home to a very special kangaroo - Skippy!
I studied and trained in Interior Design and worked as a successful Interior and Event Stylist for over 20 years. When Covid-19 bestowed itself upon us, my then event-heavy design work ceased and I redirected my focus. Let's call it a forced - but fantastic change - which I have embraced in all its glory!
During the lock-downs, I re-introduced myself to writing - I had started compiling a coffee table book - sharing my interior work over the years, but never had the time to complete it.
Living on a 5 acre semi-rural block on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, I introduced myself to living a more productive, urban-farming lifestyle on the 5 acre parcel of land on which I live.
I educated (and continue to educate) myself in sustainable living methods such as beekeeping, and establishing a "grow your own" kitchen garden, all the while installing the finishing (are you ever really finished?) touches to the interiors of our semi-rural home, now aptly named "The Farmhouse."
My writing took an organic turn in its purpose and my project morphed into researching and writing about my local surroundings, my community, and the importance of practising sustainable and regenerative farming methods, no matter how small in scale.
As I continued work on The Farmhouse interiors, and learned more about the neighbourhood and the incredible Australians who reside here, I documented the journey.
"A Farmhouse and a Famous Kangaroo," is my very first book as a result, and was picked up by International publisher, Austin Macauley.
The book showcases the beautiful area in which I am privileged to live in, the interiors of The Farmhouse, a brief history of our original "it" kangaroo - Skippy, and the various urban farming projects we are constantly learning about, and incorporating into our lifestyle here at The Farmhouse.
Feels good knowing we will leave a positive environmental footprint/legacy for generations to come.
Working with my eldest son Tobi, (COFA Fine Arts / Photography Degree), we have captured the essence of what we think is an inspiring way to live, and love.
We hope you enjoy reading my first book
"A Farmhouse and a Famous Kangaroo," and that you are in some way inspired to "get back to grass roots," hone in on your own surroundings and the people that live around you, and possibly take up a few projects of your own that may lead you to a more satisfying, grounded, "giving-back," rewarding lifestyle.
This site gives you a peek into some of the amazing lifestyle photos Tobi captured and feature in the book along with beautiful shots of the interior of The Farmhouse
by renowned photographer - Felix Forest.
